Album Rating: 3.0
i would say the opposite is true for me, and the majority of you guys are trying super hard to not conform
big lol goes to sobhi for not even getting through the first sentence of the review without subtle-shit-talking kanye
why the fuck does everything have to be about kanye, and since when is it cool to hate him
i missed the memo

im not shit talking kanye. his record succeeds in what it was trying to do. it's just unfortunate no one besides internet music nerds know el-p (changing though)

i don't not like it it's just generally boring and not some profound piece of art that some make it out to be
el-p's production is tight, don't get me wrong, but it's different, not great
there's a big difference
perhaps it's too industrial/electronic/intentionally abstract and not "soulful" enough for me, if you feel me
and yeah pretty much basing a review on a comparison of another album makes it seem way too try-hard and hip to me
just seems like you're trying to create anti-hype and a bit of "fuck what's popular this is way cooler and we can listen to this while all the lame non-elitist music nerds listen to yeezus"
i dunno it's just my opinion of course

agree with plane, as long as the work is reviewed and mostly discussed as a separate independent entity

this is about on par with Yeezus to me, honestly. but i do think this is a slight step down from RAP Music - some of the beats just don't really stand out like the ones on that album did. still an amazing album, though.

people were talking about it in Converge threads the other day

@lewis ya, they're getting bigger now, it's great. still not mainstream by any stretch, but very good they're getting props on the festival circuit

i'm not sure what point you're directing this at / what you meant by it tbh

well, you are saying that you cant compare two hiphop records basically. which is false not only because they are in the same genre, but also because they tread in related subgenre waters as well. i dont really understand when people demand that you cannot compare two similar things due to one (in their opinion) being on such a higher astral plane. or something.
