Even if The Bends isn't Radiohead-y, there really isn't another mainstream alt rock-britpop album that sounds anything like it (except for maybe Muse's debut but Matthew adds a lot of character to it)

"(Nice Dream)" is a classic though, one of the best on that album imo

What are you talking about, it is totally Radiohead-y, arguably it's their most influential album as it was pretty significant in influencing the sound of 00s radio rock with early Coldplay, Muse, and the like.

The Bends is at least as good as any other semi-mainstream alt-rock album of the 90s, its only because Radiohead have shorn off that sound that some people have had this revisionist stance on it.

i think by 'radiohead-y' he is referring to the band's 'experimentation' and android-isms as opposed to the explicitly conventional nature of the bends

I don't know why we started an argument about if it was ok to like the Bends or if it was experimental, no one was even talking about that...

I mean maybe it's just because I think it's on par with their greatest works but when I think Radiohead I think of that sound as much as their later sound.

I think if they'd quit after Ok Computer The Bends would be held in similar regard to that

"I think if they'd quit after Ok Computer The Bends would be held in similar regard to that"

I mean from a popularity standpoint it's already up there with Ok Computer, critics have just found other Radiohead albums to pick as the "next Ok Computers" (mainly Kid A and In Rainbows)

The Bends was plenty experimental though. Maybe you said something incorrect Christian and you'd like to clarify your mistake?
