Glad I caught these guys on their current summer tour. No openers.

The only songs I find myself coming back to on here are Breath on a Window and, to a lesser extent, Hollow and Voices.

My least favorite Alice In Chains album, even though it's probably tied alongside Black Gives Way To Blue. Damn, I'm really not the biggest fan of the DuVall-fronted stuff. Voices is cool though, Sitar. So are Scalpel and Breath On A Window, from what I remember.

I just don't feel like this album was adventurous enough. It's professional and often very good, but that sense of danger that permeates AiC's other albums is missing here. Not enough risk, not enough reward, not enough swinging for emotional and musical fences.

Length is an issue too.

I still haven't jammed this. The Houston rock radio station didnt advertise this at all and I had no clue it even came out until like a full six months later.

EvoHavok, definitely. Most songs just go on forever and I found myself skipping most tracks after 4 minutes or so.
Also, I just can't stand that fucking brickwall of sound, it happened in BGWTB and it happened here. Man, the guitars and vocals are so loud they drown out all the rest. That's sort of why I only really enjoyed the mellower tunes, such as Voices and Scalpel.

Still annoys me a great deal too. The shame is all the greater because 'tis quality stuff.

Well, I guess it's alright. There ain't no Rain When I Die or no Man In The Box, though.

Hear a new album is in the works, I still keep up but man I miss Layne Staley so much.

Obviously he's a big loss, but I'm glad the band still continued on. Really wish the latest two albums weren't so heavily compressed though

I know you think I'm wrong

Hate to admit it but this is pretty boring and uninspired. The DuVall stuff doesn't hold a candle to the classic Staley material.

Agreed. Black Gives Way to Blue rocked, but it was nowhere near the same level as their classic material.

Yeah, Black Gives Way To Blue is better than this but it also wore off pretty quickly. Absolutely no replay value for me.

I haven't listened to this in a couple of years but I thought it was a total jam when it first dropped.
