Why all the Wall hate? Sure, it's an overblown piece of work and Waters is not allowing the other members to contribute as well as they should, but it's still a pretty brilliant concept album. I know Animals is very good, I just never could get into it as much as their other famous four.
But Meddle owns The Wall, that's for sure.

ok I will try to explain why I think its one of the most overrated albums to ever be released:
basically there's 2 main problems. first there's the fact that only about half of the albums running time (which is far too long) is actual songs, with the rest being filler. sure, they're there to fill out the concept, but the band could've done it in a much shorter way. and besides, imo the concept isn't as engaging or well-done as the ones on the previous 3 albums.
second, the music is hardly recognisable as Pink Floyd anymore (with a few exceptions), and it just sounds like another operatic hard rock band. quite frankly, I honestly think the love for The Wall is entirely based off Another Brick In The Wall: Part 2 and Comfortably Numb. superb songs, but they only contribute to a thirteenth of the album...

You make valid arguments, although I still hear the Floyd clear throughout and I find the concept well-done. Certainly flawed, not classic and generally very overrated, but still and excellent album.

I like The Wall more than Fade does, but I basically agree 100% with what he said there
|

Regardless of the Wall being inferior to the rest of the 70's albums, it has the best song

...and one of the best guitar solos of all time in that song.

No. Meddle has the best song.

The Wall isn't that bad, honestly. I agree with Fade's points to an extent, but a lot of the material on that album is very solid. Songs like The Trial, The Thin Ice, and Hey You are as good as the stuff on the other Floyd albums. That said, WYWH=A>DSOTM>TW

studio version... Echoes > Comfortably Numb
live version... Comfortably Numb > Echoes (although the live in Gdansk version comes close)

I can probably pick at least one song off Meddle, Animals, Wish You Were Here and Dark Side of the Moon that I like more than anything on The Wall. Let's try.
Echoes
Time
Shine On You Crazy Diamond 1-5
Dogs/Sheep (can't decide which is bettah)
yep.

Comfortably Numb is my 2nd favorite song of all time. And the Pulse version as Brick said is fucking amazing
