The album flows well with a nice melancholy and haunting mood. Folklore best, Famine worst.

The only two "non-meh" songs I rated are: "I feel the dark" and "The lines in my hand".
If I were to compile a "best-of" list of Opeth songs, none from "Heritage" would make it. Which is saying something because every other album of theirs contains at least a 5 ***** song.
Long story short: "Heritage" is easily their worst album

"none from "Heritage" would make it"
I'd throw in Haxprocess as one of the best in Opeth's catalogue.

Was going to go to the 31st show but I broke my leg. Getting vibes that they might go on hiatus soon. :/

Listening to some of their older material again knocked my rating down a bit, this really doesn't stand up well.

The Devils Orchard was great, and so was Folklore, but The Lines in My Hand and The Throat of Winter were my favorites.

Anyone rating this overly low must simply not like the style or can't accept the fact that this isn't standard Opeth. This is a great album and a huge breath of fresh air for them. Their last few albums were all quality but were bordering on repetitive (though I must repeat that they were very good). As a fan of any type of good music, not just death metal, I love what they did with this. Still need to give it more listens but I'm loving this on vinyl.

Heritage is exquisite. The disappointment of some fans is a product of not having another blackwater park to listen, but that does not speak against the quality of this album. The songs are beautifully crafted, performed and recorded. Whether you miss having another death metal album or not, this is obviously a carefully created musical journey worth listening to many times.
Unfortunately there are some teenagers and young male adults with limited brain activity who enjoy the death metal albums of Opeth's simply because they are "hard". These people flock in mass to Slipknot's concerts and are the main reason for teenage shitty metal to exist.
