Ashes rules. The main problem I have with this album is it has a serious lack of content, the first and last songs are pretty much pointless, that leaves us with 4 songs basically, 3 good songs and one masterpiece.

Got my pre-order in the mail today. The quality and production sound the exact same as what everyone else has heard, even in nice 320kbps.

Snare is still high in the mix, guitars still constantly go from being in the very forefront to somewhere in the background.

i think it works though oddly enough, nothing seems too out of place.

The guitars I don't really mind, but the drums just seem out of place considering their relatively benign nature in the past. Probably an attempt to make the album seem heavier.

it probably suits aesop's drumming style more this way, but i'm not sure since i haven't heard the alternative. you're probably right but as I said it doesn't take anything away from the album in my experience

Nah, never mind. Bumping back down to a 4.5. (keeping The Mantle at a 5, though.)

I've put off listening to this until the physical album came out. I just picked it up and will have my opinion shortly.

The production by itself isn't that bad, but compared to their other LPs it's just awful. There's a certain fundamental sound I've come to expect this far into their career and it just isn't there this record. Regardless, musically it's still the same band.

I got the physical copy of it three days ago and some of the downloads I've gotten are in lower quality but they sound less intrusive. But whatever, metal and punk are genres I rarely give a fuck as to the quality of the production.

The drums on songs like Not Unlike the Waves are certainly benign. You can't hear them at all.

Nice review. I don't think I'll be getting this. I may just youtube stream it soon to see what it's like.
