Opeth's Still Life for me (having not heard anything of its ilk up to that point), although this made me feel similar things & probably would've done the trick if I'd heard it first.
There were many memorable albums from my youth, but over time these memories have faded somewhat & don't feel as prominent anymore.

Seriously, I've been trying to get into this for what's basically a year now, but the click just won't happen. Every time the album ends, I'm always left with a "this is kinda lame" feeling. Seeing I'm a simpleton who really only uses three kind of ratings - a) rules b) meh c) sucks - it's left here with my own subjective "meh" stamp

If anything both albums could do with more hype, relative to how much traffic their threads receive. It's essentially the same few guys commenting consistently, not a huge array of individual users.

I don’t just mean on Sputnik. There was an era where I couldn’t go to any metal forum and not hear someone raving about Elvenefris or Splendor, then there was a big cooling off period in the late 00s. This album’s boosters to me fall in that vein - this is a very good album, but not the flawless masterpiece it’s characterized as.

Ok, fair enough. I haven't ever frequented metal forums & discovered both albums through Sput so wasn't aware of the hype-machine outside of this site. Not even sure what 'Elvenefris' is but now I'm curious.
Edit: ah yes, heard of the band themselves, definitely need to check that out immediately by the sounds of it. Thanks (inadvertently rec'd me that one).
