Yeah, the Cowboys wont make it to the Super Bowl until Wade "Baby Huey" Phillips is gone. As much as it pains me, the reason Romo isn't what he should be is because of Garret and Phillips.
| | | Pit, you should see the epic rant I wrote about Dallas after they lost in Philly by 40 points in a playoff clinching game on the road. I was livid enough to damn near quit rooting for them.
| | | but I also don't see the Saints going back to the Super Bowl, last season was just too much of a perfect storm for them. The Packers will be good, but there's not a single team in the NFL (besides maybe the Colts) that doesn't have its share of question marks.
| | | Texans for superbowl 2010
| | | ^(Jerry the King) LAWL(er)
| | | Needs more cricket. Everyone's very polite and nothing ever happens but yeah, you're missing out.
| | | I believe it, considering I actually wrote a letter after that game to the Cowboy's organization(Ugh, how corny and childish) telling them how Cowboy nation feels betrayed by what Jerry and Wade have done to this team. They've single-handedly turned it into a laughing stock. Luckily, if you read the article on ESPN.com yesterday, it looks like the momentum might finally be going the other way. Team really seems like they are finally on the same page, and that's why I believe that if the players can overcome Phillips' stagnant way of running the team and Jason Garret's conservative play-calling, this team could GO to the Super Bowl. Pay attention to the word go, because I'm not saying that they have any chance of winning it.
| | | MJ: game one was a blowout too, but games 2-5 were all pretty great. I'm pretty pumped for the first Game 7 in the NBA Finals since 2005, and only the second one since 1994. Should be fantastic (so long as the Boston Punk Ass Bitches lose -- that's what I think I might call them from now on).
| | | They probably have more talent than any team in the league, although I am worried about the giant hole at left tackle and Strong Safety. The fact of the matter is football games are won in guts, blood, discipline, intelligence, and simply who wants it more (provided there isnt a huge talent disparity).
The Cowboys are not that tough team. They don't have the balls.
| | | Heres the extremely condensed version of that rant, which was really directed towards Jerry Jones:
1989 - Buys team, fires icon, hires a maverick in Jimmy Johnson. Defers to Johnson at first because Johnson has more football knowledge in a strand of highly gelled hair than Jones does in his entire body.
1989-1991 - Johnson brilliantly assembles one of the greatest teams in history. Tries to stop Johnson from trading Herschell Walker, which created the dynasty, then tries to take credit for it.
1992-1993- Johnsons moves create one of the more dominating teams in history. Jones, unable to handle Johnson getting credit, fires a coach that just won back to back Super Bowls
1994-1997 - Hires one of the worst coaches in NFL history and decides to start taking over personnel moves. Signs an over-rated past his prime cornerback who can't tackle and won't work to a record contract, forcing him to get rid of several key parts as their salary cap position was compromised. Watches as team evolves into a set of undisciplined hoodlums led by a coach who likes to drink and bang strippers with the players.
| | | 1998-2003 - Assumes full control, hires two lame duck yes men coaches. Passes on one of the greatest physical specimens of all time in the draft (Randy Moss), because of the backlash it wouldve created by the Cowboys already existing personality problems, brought on by the coach he hand picked. Ironically, Moss wouldve been just his kind of guy. Two years later trades two first round picks for an underacheiving Joey Galloway. Drafts Quincy Carter. Signs Ryan Leaf. Presides over one of the worst offensive stretches in history
2003-2007 - Swallows pride and lets Parcells build team. Trumps this plan by signing a cancer in TO. Takes over personnel moves again. Cant wait to see Parcells leave so he can hire a pussy, yes man coach
2007-Today - A for the most part well built team with a few glaring holes and personality and discipline problems created by Jones' own signings gets physically and mentally manhandled in do or die games.
| | | I can see you've read that book about that dynasty, huh?
At least they didn't pass on Dez Bryant. That kid is gonna be a stud
| | | yeah I'd say that's a pretty accurate timeline Hans, good stuff
| | | Yeah i love that book. Add that in with being genuinely obsessed with the team for the past 20 years and I am pretty much a walking Cowboys encyclopedia.
| | | Same here, my friend. I'm more of a Dolphins fan nowadays, but I know Cowboy's history/stats like a walking encyclopedia as well. I was born just outside of Dallas, more near Fort Worth, so that's where my Cowboys love comes in. Growing up in S. Florida changed that, though.
| | | MJ, I like the Steelers, always have. I respect their organization and the way they play football, focusing on toughness and defense. I came very very close to hitching myself to their wagon after Dallas played like a bunch of fucking faggots against Philly in 08.
| | | Inveigh, my first favorite professional athelete was Walter Payton, believe it or not. I was 5 years old, and my dad bought me a pack of Topps football cards, and it had Payton in the "1000 yard club." I asked my Dad who he was, he said he was the greatest running back ever, so I started rooting for him. Too bad he retired like two years later, but oh well.
| | | Payton was most definitely the man. The Bears need to stop trying to rebuild the '85 team though, they need to bring themselves into the 21st century (even the Steelers have acknowledged it's a passing league now).
and yeah, Big Ben's an idiot. what the fuck was he doing celebrating his birthday at a college bar in Milledgeville, GA?
| | | You can't blame Emmitt, though. That's ridiculous. If it was meant to be Sanders' record, he would of stayed in the league. If anyone's to blame for that, it should be Barry, not Emmit. And you also forget that those first three years in the league Emmitt didn't have that O-Lline, but still averaged 1200 yards his first three years. Give the guy some credit, dude. He was a great back
| | | I've been hearing the Emmitt hate for 17 years, so I'm used to it, and I can see part of it.
Heres the thing though, yes, that Cowboys line was great, but Emmitt also made them look better, and vice versa. He burned out rather quickly around 98 or so, but from 91-98 the guy was a fucking wrecking machine, an absolute beast, a warrior. His style of running was entirely different than Barry's, while yes, he was nowhere near as flashy/spectacular, he was far more consistant and bottom line, useful. When you needed to get 4 yards on a 3rd and 4, Emmitt would get it. When the ball needed to get punched in, he got it. The entire offense revolved around the running game, opening up the passing game, pretty much rendering them unstoppable.
Emmitt was a beast.
