Haha Systematic has plenty of good stuff, but if that album was where I started for them I might've stopped there, for obvious reasons.

Systematic chaos was my first one too lol.

Octavarium was my first, just because I fell in love with Panic Attack from Rock Band 2 and needed the album it was on. I think this was my second, and it remains one of my all time favorite prog albums.

Scenes was first for me, came up on a "Best Prog Albums" list I was looking at and ended up being my gateway into metal as a whole. It holds a special place in my heart for that, but looking back it's clear to me this is the better album.

First I heard was SC, too. Constant Motion came with music magazine or something and got me to check out the album

Actually still haven't heard SC, just avoided it based on the general disdain for the album

It's worth checking out at least. First half is strongest.

In the Presence of Enemies is still an awesome track.
Everything else is absolutely hit and miss.

SC is good for what it is (start of the RR money machine era), has some great tracks on it. This and Awake were the first DT for me.

SC has its moments

Repentance and In the Presence of Enemies (although the pompous and soulless instrumental section of Part 2 is pretty mediocre) are the only legitimately great songs the album has. Otherwise, songs like The Dark Eternal Night and Forsaken have their share of good moments as well

Don't forget Ministry of lost souls, well the second half

Octavarium was my first, just because I fell in love with Panic Attack from Rock Band 2 and needed the album it was on. [2]. I really dislike that album now though and same with SC, both albums are full of tripe with a few highlights.

When I&W came out my brother bought it and I instantly fell in love with it. From then on I bought all albums as soon as they were released up to Octavarium. After Octavarium I lost interest for almost seven years in their new releases. Only with ADTOE my interest was rekindled and I caught up on the discography. DT will forever be dear to my heart.

They pretty much starting me getting into music more seriously from what I hear on the radio and mainstream metal bands like Disturbed and A7X so I'll forever be thankful to them for that.

I think I found DT through this site back in early 2008 searching for bands similar to Queensryche (found Opeth the exact same way). I just remember buying the greatest hits album almost immediately after getting SC because that was the only DT my record store had without doing special orders.

Interesting, I'd lurked on Sputnik before but after getting into Scenes and this album I really started to use this site heavily to find stuff (how I found Opeth)

I bought the quite mediocre Greatest Hits album first, but the album that really got me into DT was A Dramatic Turn of Events, strangely. It must be why I feel that one is their only really authentic album since ToT - I don't know, apart from the complains about the bland drum performance, the hate it gets is completely undeserved to me.

I got into DT through Sput and Scenes from a Memory.
