Travel does seem like a potential standout.

tbh I forget how long this is until people point it out. not unwieldy in the slightest, v easy album to dip in and out of and never drags as a full jam (think the Big Sleep/Marooned used to be a hold-up, but both grew hard) - just one great song after another and seamless atmosphere. it's just as long as it needs to be to fit all the tracks that happen to be on it and I don't care to measure that

how does this compare to, say, the 2006 dreamworks picture flushed away?
|

i remember seeing so many ads for that as a kid but have no idea if i ever watched it lol. a strong impression
this is also a strong impression. long tube

"I don't care to measure that" haha! 😁
"Travel does seem like a potential standout." Absolutely. For me this is one big standout though, and that's exactly why it doesn't collapse under its enormous weight. It's exactly like Johnny says, you forget how long this is and it doesn't drag and it floats by super smoothly and steadily. But hey, it was to be expected that I'd think this.
At Illuminating now. Hmmmmmmmm, that beat/bass combo, those riffs, Anneke, the keys.

And that t/t, I know it isn't for everyone, but it is such a lovely journey.
What I like about it (and the record and even band in general) is that despite they go some places that might feel super pretentious, it never goes so far with them. It feels so genuine and they're just doing what they feel like, you really hear that, that they're putting their heart into it.

How one can barely notice the length is a bizarre concept to me. Oh how I wish to be that unburdened by the concept of time. Cool if you can though.
This definitely did drag (in part) on the first go, less so the second time and therefore appeared shorter - so I guess the perception of it’s length is something that can be altered. That doesn’t make an album clocking over 100 minutes convenient mind, it just means it absolutely is possible to enjoy an album of over 100 minutes. Whether I’ll ever be able to finish this post-lockdown is going to keep me up at night (or perhaps not, we’ll see).

Never heard this, will have to check. Mandylion and the one after it are excellent.

Ooh bloc, hope you dig it! They take a different approach here but I definitely still here some Nighttime Birds every now and then. It's more Cocteau/Massive/Slowdive/Radiohead inspired than those first two Anneke records.

Well, I can't relate yet to it, but I'm sure I'll give it more spins, as long you do your work by bumping it every SINGLE day...

Hehe true dat! Where s your pic tho?
I listened to this a few months ago. I haven't lived it yk? When I was listening pretty much only Nirvana I didn t feel normal at all lol and like it or not, their music has a certain derranged feeling, so, yeah...

Mandylion is good but overrated and has aged q a bit, check Nighttime Birds instead. It is excellent and succinct and free from the good ol' adage of don't listen to a feckin double album if you're in a hurry

Yeah I'd also suggest Nighttime Birds first, but both rule super hard.
But my real idea would be to listen to this some more while lockdowns last and time is more readily available 🌝💕
These guys and girl are worth it to take it nice and slow too.

For real, think I took over a year to chew over their core discog when I was 16/17 and it was one of the best journeys, full stop
