This is my favorite Katatonia album. Maybe it's my inner Opeth fanboy.

A really decent album, similar to The Great Cold Distance (which I still think is a slightly better album) but they've displayed the mood and feel to that album in slightly different, maybe more mature ways. Really liking Liberation at the moment.
Finally get to see these guys live in a couple of days (their first NZ show) after 10 years of being a fan. Can't wait!

Even though Idle Blood and The Longest Year are easly one of Katatonia's best songs, this album is definatly my least favourite. The middle part just drags and drags and drags...

I don't see the big deal about Last Fair Deal Gone Down. It's easily my least favorite Katatonia album.

I think "Idle Blood" is the best song Katatonia have ever written. So awesome.

each to his own I guess; I think Last Fair Fead Gone Down and Viva Emptiness rocksmore than what follows.. Sweet Nurse and Don't Tell a Soul are among their best songs, imo..
i have of course only listened to the last four albums so I don't know about their back catalogue, but I'd rank them like this
Last Fair Deal Gone Down (4.5) > Viva Emptiness (4-4.5) > The Great Cold Distance (4) > Night Is the New Day (3.5)

What can I tell you Hawks, before Viva Emptiness, Katatonia's albums have always been about deep emotions, and LFDGD is no different, having some of the most intense material a band has ever recorded. Chrome, Dispossession and especially Tonight's Music are so beautifully moving.
The later albums on the other hand, have much more "brain" than "heart"...at least to my ears.

well one thing LFDGD have that the other album has is melodic guitar lines which is why i love it. they sorta gave up the melody on viva
but ya hawks if you like BMD i got another rec for you, this to me...Futile is like BMD part 2
