I almost wish I could have experienced this album first, because every time I listen to it I wonder if its even better than Operation: Mindcrime.

fucking great, but rrrreeeallllyy different. dark and introspective. undeniably queensryche, a five for some of us, but certainly less metal.

Walk in the Shadows sounds like a hybrid of heavy metal and gothic rock and I love it so much. [2]
"a five for some of us"
Hard! The title track is like Pink Floyd playing doom "metal".

Rage for Order has a vibe that I can only describe as the setting for goth vampires in Blade Runner. I can think of literally no other album like it.
If not for "Gonna Get Close to You" it may well be their best.

Yeah the band was deep into vampire fiction at the time and it bled into the music... like half of the songs are about vampires. I love it so much, it's both goth and sci-fi-ish. It's the combo you didn't know you needed.
Tbh... Gonna Get Close to You is one of my favorites, it's so haunting and I love the sudden bursts of energy like 1:55. Also that little solo around 3:20 has such an unexpectedly happy vibe. Idk I love that song haha.

it has parts that get me hyped, and then some big time bring me downs.

"what's your favorite here?"
Ah that's like choosing your favorite child. Probably Neue Regel, or Screaming in Digital... or London? Yeah it's likely one of these three. I'll have to rank the band sooner or later.

Neue Regel and London both have to be in like the top 10 QR. Maybe even 5.

Love so much the bass in London like at ~0:20, shame it's a bit pushed back. Also love when the drums get quicker under the guitar soloing around 2:55 onwards ughh.

Didn't realize it, but they have been off and on opening with that song since rage dropped. It's so fucking metal live.

this album is probably several steps above mindcrime in terms of its ideas, just lacks the same consistency/flashy standout moments

In that sense this album is several steps above basically everything, imo.

I know right. I have to go if he comes close. Only way to guarantee I'll see these songs live, in some form or another. I mean Della Brown should potentially be pretty accurate at least, and he's handled Screaming in Digital fairly well with age.
Todd-ryche is finally hitting STL in February too, so stoked. Hoping Rockenfield comes back before then.
