Personally I like DMST's album over this one. This is still sexy though.

it's just typical post-rock, doesn't add anything to the genre. it just does the same style of post-rock well with little change. i find myself becoming bored with it about 2 tracks in too.

There's really not much to do with post rock anymore. It may be typical/generic post rock, but it's the best I've heard.

mono revolutionized the genre. you are there is better than this, but this is still awesome.

no they didn't, they just played a more extreme, better version of the music than a lot of other people.

But this is the best traditional post-rock record created so far, the only thing that rivals it is Mono's earlier work. It pretty much refined what Mono has been working towards their entire career.

qwe you just described what happens (typically) when one revolutionizes a genre.

hahaha no
and nah i didnt soby. they haven't changed any elements of their music at all. they just played longer songs with more flair.

if you want a band that's revolutionising post rock check out DMST.
saying these guys are revolutionising post rock is just a way of validating the ridiculously high ratings it's getting

See I feel that while this isn't exactly revolutionising it combines classical and post rock in a way I haven't heard before.
Almost neo classical on steriods if you will.
And DMST are fantastic, be they aren't revolutionising either.

DMST are far more revolutionary than Mono. There is no major band that is as consistent nor as forward thinking as them in the genre right now.
it combines classical and post rock in a way I haven't heard before.
gybe, yndi halda, sigur ros' earlier stuff have all done it as good or better.

Sigur Ros isn't traditional, This > Yndi Halda, and GYBE are GYBE they're automatically better than anyone else.
I think the spawns of Godspeed (Mt Zion, Hrsta, etc), are bringing much more to the table than DMST. DMST are great, but nothing they have done touches this or You Are There in my opinion.

sigur ros is traditional in their instrumentation and orchestration, the inclusion of vocals doesn't change the way the music is put together. but it was progressing the genre at the time (although their last album was just more of the same hence the 2/5 or whatever i rated it)
this being better than Yndi Halda is laughable. and yes, GYBE will never be matched.
A Silver Mt. Zion are pretty good, and i haven't heard much of Hrsta, but the structure of A Silver Mt. Zion's music hasn't really deviated from the norm.

GY!BE have a sound all their own.
This is nothing like Sigur Ros.
I didn't even think about Yndi Halda and I guess, but this is alot more grandiose then YH.
And I'm with Alex, obviously.
