I understand why you would relate the two, but I'm not sure you could compare them at all.
The Weakerthans are one of my favourite bands so I obviously like them more, but comparing an indie-rock band to a punk group just feels off.

Propagandhi's old bassist John Samson formed The Weakerthans that's why I compared them.

Still doesn't mean they should be compared. As Aids said, one's a punk band, the other's an indie band. They don't call for a comparison.
I guess I just relate them, I enjoy them both anyway.
