As much as you will hate Nirvana for almost ruining rock with their infectious simplicity (okay, not that many people hate them), it was a necessary move in music's history. And I can't deny the catchiness of a lot of their songs. Something that had been missing for a while. This record is easily my favorite, despite being a th every opposite of what I would normally listen to, it still gets played every now and again.

Hard to believe that this album is 20 years old, NPR did a really interesting story on this album's significance. As I have said before, I think this is an important album, because it irrevocably dislodged glam rock from popular opinion. Who knew that the theme of alienation was to be a major part of rock and metal's appeal for 20 years, following the release of this record?

From the article by Stephen Thompson:
""Flower Sniffin Kitty Pettin Baby Kissin Corporate Rock Whores." When you're 19 and it's 1991, that sort of self-aggrandizing self-deprecation is like catnip: I couldn't wait to take the whole bundle home and put on the shirt and the CD, even though I, as a 19-year-old nerd raised just out of reach of the nearest college radio station, hadn't even heard of Nirvana at that point."
catnip haha

Not a Nirvana fan, but being a child of 90s I've listened to just about every song on this album at some point. I've always thought the other Seattle bands were better.

Soundgarden and Alice in Chains are better overall than Nirvana. There's some great songs on this album though.
Come as You Are is one of my favorite grunge songs.

I realize that not everyone likes Nirvana, but I think their influence on music is difficult to deny. Thanks for presenting a well written and objective review!
