listen to the song 'stricken' again, and then tell me that they suck. anyway, this is a Metallica thread. so lets stop and get back on track. we will have to agree to disagree on that.

chan man, just cause your punk rock bands cant play solos doesnt mean you can judge wrongly against a band who has talent.

You can't see it right now, but I'm having very violent facial ticks as a response to this statement.

Oh, it's on now. Where to start...

First off, don't shoot your mouth off about subjects you know nothing about. Continue to do so, and you will eventually run across someone who will literally shoot your mouth off.

Second, punks bands focus on catchiness, simplicity, and using music as an effective means to convey a message in an easy-to-digest bite. Musical bluntness, in other words. They do have solos, but they're not a requirement.

Misfits guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein only played a couple of solos in his whole tenure with the 'Fits, but the solos on Descending Angel and Doctor Phibes Rises Again kick the living shit out of anything Kirk Hammet has ever done.

For another thing, sheer technical ability is not an indication of quality. And even if it were, Metallica would still suck.

One's approach to music is irrelevant to whether or not you succeeded at your intended goal in that style. And punk does its thing very well. Whether it be politically minded hardcore bands, introspective emo bands, or balls-to-the-wall partying horrorpunk bands, they all do their respective jobs from their approach.

Also, since when the hell is a solo the keystone of musical quality? Just because a guitarist can play a solo doesn't mean it's actually good.

All this boils down to the fact that you need to shut the fuck up. This is not an issue of opinion, this is you pretending to know what you're talking about, and failing quite abysmally.

Am I little grouchy? You're damn right I am. I'm tired, irritable, caught in a heatwave with no AC, and am in no mood to suffer fools. This Message Edited On 08.02.06

Hey Steerpike, seeing that you are the only one who has what I think smart opinions on Metallica(and several bands).

Do you think Master of Puppets sucks, or do you think is just average?

To the others who have low opinions on MOP, I don't want you to feel somehow bad about not considering your opinions, but I have mainly rode "Master of Puppets sucks" which isn't what I call an smart comment.

-Drunken Viking has also a good point of view.

To be perfectly blunt, I can't stand it. It's boring, drags horribly, the drumming is banal, the bass is underwhelming, the solos don't grab me at all, the riffing is repetitive, and the vocals are reminiscent of 2112... nails being driven into my ears.

In a nutshell, I think it's one of the most sublimely obnoxious albums I've ever heard in my life. I know a lot of people don't see things from my perspective, but that's just the way I feel after listening to the album several times through and trying (in vain) to find something about it I liked.

"Everybody knows that St. Anger is the best Metallica album. The riffz r so brewtle!"

St.Anger is their worst album, i bought it and was so dissapointed.
It doesn't even sound like Metallica to me.

The reason why I'd rate this album higher than both RtL and ..AJFA is because this record has no bad tracks. Ride the Lightning has more songs that get you hooked, like Creeping Death, but Escape and Trapped Under Ice bring the album down. Same goes for ...AJFA. MoP has consistency.

That's why this is one of the best albums of metallica and of metal history.
