From the Hundred Year War to the Crimea

With a lance and a musket and a Roman spear

To all of the men who have stood with no fear

In the service of the King

Sing it Mick!

They were given all the foods of vanity

And all the instant promises of immortality

But they bit the dust screaming "insanity!"

Four horsemen!!!

The voices in your head are calling

Stop wasting your time

There's nothing coming

Only a fool could think someone could save you

Back when I was a bellend and thought this album was shite that was the only tune I truly dug. I was a total fool.

The "you grew up and you calmed down" bit is still one of the highlights though.

I just thought it was ridiculously overrated.

The clash for me were white riot, career opportunities, complete control, safe European home then you got to this and it was lovers rock, Jimmy Jazz, rockabilly, plus it smelt of corporate interference.

Like I said though dude I was wrong, but I did feel that way about it for a good 20yrs.

This album was important to me when I was 12 but I feel like it's not very important in the grand scope of things

There are a lot better punk records, a lot better rock records, and a lot better mixed genre records. Especially considering post-punk was already underway when this came out

See that's the odd thing for me treb. When I did "grow up and calm down" death and glory, the card cheat, hateful, rudie all just hit me so hard. I can relate to this as much in me 30s as the debut resonated with me when I was a young 'un.

I just don't think the songs on here for the most part are anything special anymore

Still very good, but this is the top punk record on rateyourmusic which is crazy to me
