I'm with you. I don't think it's underrated generally as it was very influential, but the average does seem a little low on here now you mention it. It seemingly doesn't take much for a death metal album to hit 4+ & this is only floating just above that mark at 4.1, that feels off somehow.

like honestly this avg should be a lot closer to Slayer's and Morbid Angel's best. Not all that different, but way more technical. The bass slaps harder than probably any other death metal band from late 80s/early 90s

maybe not altars of madness, but honestly this is all around better than anything I've heard from Slayer. And I do like Slayer.
