i just came across the story of mouthbreather lol
10: What's the story behind Mouthbreather.
David yow: It's about Britt Walford, from Slint. And Albini had gone out of town for a while, and Britt was watching his house, and one night he just got plowed and lost the keys to the house, so he broke down the door--taking part of the doorframe with it. So instead of repairing it, he just nailed it up with a bunch of 2x4s. And he broke a toilet, and it was literally raining piss water in the basement, where there was mucial equipment and drums set up, and just splashing piss water over the drums and shit.

Never quite understood why people call this noise rock before other things, I never pick up any elements I’d associate with noise
|
| |
Most noise rock (inc this) is more accurately described as noisy rock - totally different lineage to noise, kinda a misnomer if you view it from that angle

I get that. Just even in the realm of noise rock it doesn’t seem that noisy especially compared to contemporaries like Cows or even Unwound. But yeah maybe as I’ve listened to more and more “noise” music my tolerance and ignorance to any kind of dissonance has only gone up

yeah i don't get some of it either. im personally more confused with unwound being labeled noise rock, at least tJL has the manic vox, they both sound like early post hardcore bands to me, like fugazi, but i don't know shit i was like 3 years old when this stuff came out

'im personally more confused with unwound being labeled noise rock,'
yeah i mean like johnny said, you think of a distinction between bands influenced by the noise ethos and bands who are noisy rockers it makes sense. Unwound fuck around a lot with feedback and long experimental/improvisational passages. theyre closer to that sort of 'noise' experimentation than a noisy rock band like jesus lizard (even though unwound do still do the noisy rockin)
