Considering Strange Machines was a radio hit (... imagine that!! Those were the days) over here, I'd say this might be their most successful album sales-wise over here. It's their biggest hit to this day.

Yeah I remember browsing their old forum back in 2010 or smt and Hans Rutten confirmed that Mandylion was their most selling album.
I don't think anything has changed since then, especially considering Anneke's departure.

Took me a long time to start diving into this band's discog, but I'm really glad I did. This is some incredible stuff... fantastic vocals from Anneke, and of course, all those gothic doomy riffs I love. Can't wait to check out more of their work \m/

That's the crazy thing too. I'd always seen pictures of the 1996 Pinkpop performance, where they're playing to an absolutely massive crowd. At that point, I assumed they'd already shifted their sound for a more commercial approach, but then I actually watched the performance... and nope, they were still doing the goth/doom thing, and just managed to draw in such a large audience with that sound. Pretty amazing tbh

@Koris: The following album, Nighttime Birds is very good and a lot like this one! Band hasn’t put out a bad album (except Almost a Dance which has good songs but the ridiculous vocals kinda kill it). This though is an untouchable album

Yeah, I tried to listen to Almost a Dance, but it was pretty much unlistenable to me because of the vocals. The dude sounded like a cross between a third-rate Mike Patton and Edd from Ed Edd n Eddy. It's sad too, because the music itself was pretty solid :/
I'm definitely looking forward to Nighttime Birds though, I've heard a lot of good things about that one

Nighttime Birds is wholesome (my 2nd fave), enjoy!
and I keep putting off Almost a Dance but ngl this sold it to me... "The dude sounded like a cross between a third-rate Mike Patton and Edd from Ed Edd n Eddy"
perhaps sounds more amusing than it is, hmm... but who completes 95% of a game and then ditches it at the final boss, without even attempting the fight?

No one has ever heard Almost A Dance twice.
