"There was also a shitty straight edge band that caused some problems in the crowd with their fans and the middle-aged metalheads. Not sure what band stirred that up. Weird night, lots of people got kicked out."

'Sounds of the Underground?'
I think so, man. It was a convergence of tours here or something. I got free tickets because Cradle stayed at the hotel for which my then-gf worked the front desk for. I get that tour mixed up with the Viva La Bands tour I saw with GWAR around the same time also featuring Goatwhore and CKY, I think.

Dude. It was totally the Acacia Strain and TDWP that stirred the pot in Utah from my memory. We may have had the worst XE crowd in american in the 2000's. I have a lot of ridiculous stories concerning that crowd and metal shows in SLC.
Fuck, that's taking me back when all I cared about was bands being 2 br00tal.

It was great. All the white-shirt ninjas got wrecked by the old-school metal dudes.
Utah metal shows really sucked for about a year when the sXe trend was roaring. I actually got slapped in the mouth by some 90 lb kid outside of an ETID show because I was smoking a cigarette and he had a bunch of tool friends.

yeah well
thats what you get for going to an ETID show

i was way too cool for ETID when they played at that very same SotU fest

"You might like some things from this if you gave it another listen."
Ya know what I spun through this just to pick ALL the moments I did like
1. The chorus on the opener
2. Intro to JWB
3. Cool moment about :45 into Whore House
4. Breakdown halfway through Paper-Weight
5. Ending to Sleeping With the Fishes
6. Chords around :40 in Cradle, clean lead at about 2:20
7. Clean section around 1:30 on Weekly Wars, fade-out ending
Everything else was forgettable. Also, The Try is an ass closer and by far the weakest in their discog

Those are some of the best moments on this album to be fair. But nothing from grandfather or el pinata? did you like any of the drumming?
The Try is reminiscent of their earlier grind stuff which is why i dont think it works as well on Mongrel. I wouldve preferred Weekly Wars as the closer yeah.

@chinesewhispers its hilariously accurate that you have to specify exact passages by seconds in each song because all the good parts are surrounded by utter wank
|

grandfather is one of the best songs yeah
because of that one part

Album makes me want to play guitar hard

Grandfather was consistently decent but nothing really stood out. PiƱata seemed like a throwaway
The drumming is great, but as a guitar player I find my ears gravitate more in that direction

"the part that isnt utter wank, right"
yeah the part starting at 3:50
the rest is garb
