Shades of God is much better than this and Icon. Based on my first listen of course

Vocals were once again weak like in Icon. To me, they did not fit the music very well and the choruses were very lackluster. No bad songs, but only 2 really stood out.

Personal Standout Tracks on 1st Listen:

well these "weak vocals" and Icon's "weak vocals" are my favorite of all time so i really can't see your point, but Shades of God being better than this is just plain ridiculous

@StormChaser

I am unsure how many times you have revisited the albums. I am merely going through chronologically and these are all 1st time ratings. Things are definitely bound to changes on future listens. His cleaner vocals were not impressive IMO on icon or draconian times. Since Faith Divides Us - Death Unites Us i have LOVED his voice top to bottom

well for this one i can't really tell, but over the years it has to be upwards of 50, icon a bit less. i have a soft spot for Shades, it has some of the band's best songs of their entire career. but i think the production is really rough and it's nowhere near as consistent as their later releases such as this one and Icon. It's always awesome to see new people getting into the band. hopefully you'll like the new ones as much as I do. I have Obsidian and Ascension in my top 5 pretty comfortably. i for one would give a hefty sum of money if Nick could pull off an album with this style of vocals, but even with an ungodly amount of post work there's no way he can approach the rawness and bite he had on this one.

I LOVE his vocals on Faith, while I find the Tragic Idol vocals, as well as all subsequent non-growl louder vocals of his pretty bad. They seemingly managed to make them sound extremely near Faith on Ascension, so there's that

Dude I've heard Draconian Times first time in 1996, the replay counter probably crossed several hundreds by now and it's peak PL.

'Shades of God is your least favorite out of the first 6?'

Yeah, its one of those transitional ones that is neither one thing or the other for me.

Maybe its better than the debut, might be a little hyperbole there.

It took me years to appreciate Shades of God, probably because of the production.

I have the remastered version of many of the albums. So I did not notice a production issue.

I could never get into this. I've listened to it for a few years now and then, but it never captivated me, even if i can understand how others love this
