i'm glad that list is objective so i don't have to wonder about who are truly the greatest artists of all time

yeah, there's far too many artists to choose from otherwise. I can't be expected to make decisions.
|
| |
I don't even know if I could come up with a collection of ten that didn't leave me with crippling anxiety over the thought that I was leaving out too many others.
Sonic Youth, Fugazi, This Heat, Bjork, David Bowie, Swans, The National, Radiohead, Talk Talk, The Smiths, Faust, Captain Beefheart, Tim Buckley, Can, The Velvet Underground, Nick Drake, The Cure, Residents, etc. - so many choices. And that's not even including jazz artists because then it'd be literally impossible.

Yeah, there are too many incredible and boundary pushing groups across the musical landscape to really narrow shit down to 10. I love listening to it all though.

Boris
Bowie
Dillinger Esc Plan
The Gathering
Kayo Dot
King Crimson
SY
Stereolab
Supercar
Unwound
turns out leaving half tec's canonfart suggestions in the dust at the drop of a hat was exactly the right impetus to get over the crippingly anxiety of laying down something inadequately definitive mmhm
|
| |
i will one day listen to supercar i promise
edit: bump King Crimson for Parliament

Been meaning to check Stereolab for years now tbh

Album Rating: 4.0
I've never heard Supercar but why do I feel like they are undeserving of the list ^
Stereolab should be the band to unite all of Sput... I am listening to them right now, surely this cannot possibly be a coincidence?
|
| |
Supercar are the only shoegaze/alt rock band with a perfect discography and your sloppy Radiohead 5 squarely disqualifies you from having an opinion on this matter

and the two are related, how?
edit: ah, I see they may have dabbled with electronic sounds which makes them infinitely more interesting. Also Trif likes them. Japan tho, I should've known. Ugh.

because you have dumb suspicions for dumb reasons and forfeit the right to a logical hearing as such
edit: yh reported for racism and fat arsedness goodbye demon your life on sput maybe deserved a better end

@Johnny - forgot about King Crimson they'd be among my impossible-to-consciously-omit list as well.
I object the canonfart comment, however, as the only clearly canonfart picks I've chosen are Radiohead (and I almost posted a parenthetical note of self-awareness alongside it but refrained) and The National. Bjork and Swans and The Smiths et al are no more Sputnik-spiced-pumpkin-latte-core than e.g. Unwound or Boris at this point.
Also, DEP? chest pain But at least we both agree that David Robert Jones is an appropriate choice.

Unwound & Boris BOTH literally won the Sput popularity contest. Primo cannoncore around here.
And don’t get me wrong Unwound in particular were worthy winners / a good choice, it just seems Johnny may be throwing stones in glass houses
|
| |
Unwound and Boris are certified sputcanon yes
This is different from canonfart, which intersects with /mu/core rymcore NMEcore fantanocore scaruffi onlinejankcore and the other ones also and, at the very least, would put TVU, Swans and The National in the eh bucket
Talk Talk and This Heat are such basic bitch make-me-elit choices that they do little to rectify this, but they are good enough escape judgement. Bjork and The Cure, however, are classic examples of household name credit-hawking that have delivered the goods where it counting but also have major holes in their discogs
gimme more names plz
|
| |
also I'm feelin hubristic enough to say that I had both Unwound and Boris 5'd before I started the popularity contest that certified both as apex sputcore - don't you put those eggs back in my chicken!
