yeah I mean...you have a point, but the issue here is that I don't think they will ever go back to a White Pony or even Koi...in here they go hell of experimental, while keeping the Deftones ID, and this time going somewhat disturbing/unsettling as said...this album started as 3.5-4 for me...then the section of songs from Spell of Math to Radiant City started to push some of my buttons...singles grew, specially the opener (which is very Koi/DE) as both tracks Ceremony and Headless. Maybe its because Gore was a bit underwhelming, even if I enjoy it and this time the essence of Deftones is recaptured, but as older guys in 2020. A sophisticated output where heaviness does not always mean distorted guitars and explosions. Some gazey moments you've mentioned are deep nightmares and not very dreamy like...

Yea i totally get why so much of you like this album, and yea Gore was mostly a snoozefest for me and i know that Deftones are not going back to their older eras (and i totally respect that), bands should be ever-evolving IMO. But for an example, Genesis is a song that wants to play to the older side (more heavy djenty riff) and the song is good BUT for me it lacks at least one more heavy punch in it like the main riff or some kind of a breakdown, you get me? I like the song and all but i feel it doesn't deliver 100%. And ofc that heaviness is not always distortions and gains :D (but lets say i cater to that side more haha)

I was torn between 2.5 or 3 on this one. I feel it like and average for me BUT i cant argue that the musicianship is very very tight on this one. Even though it doesn't click for me, the production and the playing is very good. So ill probably give them 0.5 for that one :D
