Perhaps the disappointment is elevating the negative feeling the album gives people. All I know is I'd rather spin Erase Me than Refused post-Shape of Punk to Come or Inter Alia, and I like both of those too tbh. At least Erase Me does something different from the norm for Underoath, Freedom is literally SoPtC lite and Inter Alia is RoC lite.
@Steak: Sunburnt is dope, that would be a nice direction

Maybe not the best example for this thread but I was disappointed with that Avril Lavigne comeback record as a fan of her music, quite severely actually, but I still found some redeemable qualities there - that namely being the opener. Years of hoping for her redemption, and it all fizzled out into a huge void of boring shit.
So believe me I do get that angle, but even through disappointment I was able to look on the bright side. That's what I'd like to see more of, but perhaps that makes me too optimistic for my own good.

anybody listenin to the Twitch album breakdowns? seein how much they adore the old stuff (save spencer/disam, sigh), I have an extreeeeeemely cautious hope toward this new release they r writin that it might be like, actually decent/good

Yeah I've been watching. I'm not going to allow myself to feel hope but it would be great if this made them want to make some good shit again. Like "oh yeah, we're insanely talented songwriters and what we did on Erase Me is completely beneath us."
