it's just such a boring uneventful tune. like, it's not bad at all but i don't get it. good lyrics sure, but the melody and everything is just okay. also how tf can you say need my girl is the worst song when fireproof exists? that's just... what?

I Need My Girl is spotify playlist fodder, disappointed they released a song like that

Opener here is one of their very best.

the whole album luci. yall basic

*ehm* actually the opener has some very complex time signatures and requires a punishingly high IQ and familiarity with Music on an applied and conceptual level to really appreciate. and Pink Rabbits is pretty.

I’ve always thought Humiliation was just the tiiiiiiiniest bit overrated tbh
Yeah same here. Maybe it’ll grow on me though.

Slipped >> Humiliation as far as that part of the album/kind of song is concerned

I Need My Girl is one of the best here, the lyrics and melody really hook me. It’s got a certain feeling to it I love.

I am seen.

Slipped is better for sure, just outside my top 5
Fireproof being bad is just....ugh I’m so tired of this take

I wouldn’t call it bad. It has a kinda cool atmosphere— but then it’s just bland overall. The lyrics, the progression etc. Doesn’t help that it’s surrounded by a bunch of amazing songs and paling in comparison.

Oh man I love “Fireproof”, one of my favorite melodies here tbh. Ugh this is too good

"Fireproof" is a lesser cut on here but it's still quality.
I think this album is threatening to overtake Alligator as my second-favorite Natty behind High Violet.

This actually might be becoming my favorite National album. It honestly keeps switching around. At this moment, it feels like:
TWFM (most consistent also imo)
High Violet
Alligator
Boxer
Sad Songs (about half of the album is great tho — if the entire album had that quality and rock/raw vibe, it would be ahead of Boxer)
Haven’t gotten to SWB, IAETF or the debut yet.
This list is very, very liable to change over the next few weeks (days even).

No way, I Need My Girl is one of their best songs imo.

My issue isn't with how it sounds, it's just so uncharacteristic of the band. Closer to Maroon 5 than a National song.
