There's very little modern production that can touch certain classic albums though. Remain in Light anyone?

Remain In Light sounds incredibly modern production-wise definitely, I've also always thought of Paranoid as a good example

as far as rock music goes the production on older stuff is miles ahead of newer stuff 9 times out of 10

Yeah. Crisper production doesn't necessarily equal better. All about just being able to generally showcase the music. So it really just varies.

granted a lot of 80s records were plagued by that awful gated reverb drum sound

90s had some excellent sounding records

second oasis record was a big turning point for the worse as far as slamming everything to 11 and brickwalling the heck out of it is concerned tho

Production plays a big part, no matter what generation. Though some mid-late 60s recordings are a bit lacking due to the process of mono-to-stereo, that really fucked up the sound a bit.

Mid-00s are the worst production wise, especially when it comes to metal albums because it made it more BRO0TAL

Yeah 80s drums are worst fucking shit. Like joy division almost had that problem but they somehow got it right.

but the overly simple and lazy drum pattern that's used in like 95% of pop songs is even worse imo. Not sure who started it but I'm blaming daft punk until further notice.

I blame Rick Rubin for everything tbh. And he's actually produced plenty of decent records.
