it's one of those things where i get why he said it and i agree it's lame that so many people are flocking to rly shitty bands when they have one as solid as DEP on the bill, but outwardly saying it sounds conceited as hell and kind of alienates the crowd that did show up to see them.

Tbh I’ve never listened to an album by these guys, but they are on my (very) long list of discogs to check out.
That said, I saw them open for Deftones a few years ago (had never heard of them at the time) and they did indeed kick ass. Really intense stuff.

oof man check em. This record is probably the best starting point. I’m jealous that you get to listen to them for the first time, but I also pity you since you never got to see them headline.

I am definitely going to. Long queue of discogs to check out. I bought all their albums so I definitely will.
I’ll probably start at the debut and go chronologically. That’s been working out well for me with other discogs.

Humm debut is very different from all the rest. Mind that.
This one on the other hand, first track will grab your attention immediately.

Calculating Infinity is still fucking great, but it’s definitely their most different. And that’s not a bad thing at all.

Their first 3 albums are kinda unique - while the last 3 are consistent as hell but have a similar touch. That being said: Start with this one or Dissociation

currently listening to this...damn this is by far Billy's best effort to date. But Ire Works also bangs drumwise with that other drummer

Gil Sharone... dude's a beast. Mouth of Ghosts is one of my favourite drum tracks ever

Apart from Death (who are far and away the winners), this band has probably had the second best rotating roster of drummers I can think of; they don't mess around when it comes to the kit

Hear me out, and I don’t think they have Death and Dillinger beat, but what about Avenged Sevenfold? Rev, Mike Portnoy, and Brooks Wackermann all fuckin shred. Even the kid they got for their shitty throwback record was great.

Good shout, I've never heard any of wackermanns stuff but the rev and portnoy are undeniably good drummers

He was always great when he was in Bad Religion, but he’s a monster behind the kit on the new(ish) avenged record. It’s worth checking out for him alone.

Gil Sharone! Thank you! Forgot the name. Might even call Ire Works their best album drumwise. Too bad his works after TDEP weren't as good as that. And Pennie wasn't bad at all but those other 2 have way more punch.
