This has the first song I listned from Opeth, Porcelain Heart. But, when I listened to it from start to finish i didn't like it. I remember thinking that The Lotus Eater was too all over the place.

think porcelain heart was my first opeth song too. it was between that or deliverance, i remember i dl'd those 2 along with to rid the disease i think way back in the day. vocals on deliverance turned me off at first so i listened to PH way more

lol pretty much how it happened for me too. deliverance scared the fuck out of me at first, but i slowly kept coming back and got used to it then i got into bwp and gr and it was a wrap from then

I loved the non-growling sections and just "endured" the growls until it became more normal for me. [2]

This must be the case with most of us. Of course there are people who searched for a certain type of aggression and found it in growls and distorted vocals, but the majority of the listeners is alienated with harsh vocals at first.

OvDeath, our Opeth discoveries share a lot similarities.

this is why i always rec opeth to beginners cuz theyre such a great gateway band not only for death metal, but for prog, blues, jazz and even black metal if u fuck with Morningrise
