"chiefs are just fucking around because they can. saving their important plays and effort for the playoffs because they are talented enough and well coached enough to coast. we do this every year but they will show up in the playoffs at arrowhead. always do."
we absolutely do not. we did it last season and they proved us wrong. every other year of the mahomes era they were comfortably an elite regular season team.
by a lot of metrics the 2023 chiefs were a bottom 5 regular season to ever win the super bowl. and despite their record their arguably even worse this year. yeah they're the fucking chiefs but last year was a lot more anomalous then its made out to be.
for all the comparisons to the pats they never fucking "flipped a switch" in the playoffs. they were that team all season and the few times they weren't (2005, 2009, 2019) they got blown out in the first round at home accordingly.

tons of doubters in 2022 as well. they lost to the matt ryan colts, went to ot with the malik willis titans as well as the david culley texans and won 7 one score games. better offense that year but still a lot of similarities.
still think the jags beat them in that playoff game if agnew doesn't fumble : (

"They are literally 11-1 yet struggling against teams with absolutely turgid records. How is fucking Carolina coming within 1 score? The SAME Carolina that lost 40-7 to the Commanders???"
Again, if blowing out teams is your only metric of a 'dominant' team, I think you're either watching only highlights or you just actually believe running the score up on bottom feeders is the sign of a good team. Last time I recall, you play to win the game, not stat pad. The record doesn't lie, and the Chiefs are 11-1, whether it's through barely squeaking out wins or decisively winning. I hate this team greatly, more so after the Browns game in 2020, but I can't deny these guys always got some mojo working for them, and they don't need to blow teams out to prove why they're on par with some of those old dynasties, even if they aren't flashy or convincing enough for some people. You can make an argument about them being insanely lucky for the last two years, but if you win three rings in four years, it's hard to argue with the results.

I just don't get how these bottomfeeders are even getting close to winning lol. Carolina sucks how were they within 1 score, did KC just give them pity garbage-time points or something? Mahomes has been down this year statistically, multiple weeks where rookie Bo Nix played better.
|
| |
these bottom-feeders are also professional football teams comprised of players good enough to make an NFL roster lol why is this even an argument
|
| |
Was just gonna say that exact thing lol.
|
| |
like do you expect them to immediately roll over and give up because they're so inferior, the way you talk about this, you'd expect it to be like Little Giants or something
|
| |
i say all this in full awareness that i'll still call someone like Daniel Jones or Trent Richardson asscheeks, it doesn't take away from the fact they were good enough to make a roster
|
| |
Yeah a lot of these bad teams still have multiple very glld to great players.
|
| |
also you're a broncos fan, please tell me how incredible those Manning teams were and how they blew out bottom feeders every week yet struggled to beat the Browns, Dolphins and Bills and owe Cam Newton your ring because he was afraid to dive on a ball
|
| |
chiefs still have the magic and benefit greatly from playoff experience, until someone other than Brady knocks them off I just dont believe this team is losing this year, especially if they make to the big game. bills are our only chance.

It's because despite their reputation, KC's defense is bad this year

Prayers for tlaw 😢

dude that was some bottom of the barrel vontaze burfict shit. dirty ass player who has a history of this. should be 4 games minimum suspension. the team fighting his ass was great at least.

@Fripp: I hear what you mean, I'm just ultimately confused. I'm seeing these teams barely put up 7-10 points against MOR teams like the Commanders but almost beat the top dogs? How does any of that make sense? That defense needs help badly, imagine the Jags lost 52-6 to Detroit but then that same team theoretically gets within 1 score of KC, where was that team against Detroit?? That's what it is, Washington isn't some world-ender although Jayden has promise but Carolina got smushed.
Also what tf happened with Lawrence I wasn't really clued in, hope he's okay

it's almost like these teams have different gameplans for each matchup, but also what does the Commanders have to do with you thinking the Chiefs should be curbstomping every team like it's Madden on rookie mode? You keep coming back to this argument and every time, it becomes less convincing. Everyone knows the Chiefs' defense isn't good. For a matter of fact, their defense isn't really what people talk about, as it's usually been their weakest link over the last few years, and if anything, has been their undoing when they actually do lose in the playoffs. The fact it isn't good yet again shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

they won 9 of their last 10 games that season with a margin of victory greater than a touchdown while having the best offense in the league. no there were not.

last season the chiefs were 15th in offense ppg and 2nd in defense ppg. this year they are 11th and 8th respectively. by SRS the defense has been better than their offense by roughly 4-5 points in each of the last two seasons.
the chiefs offense is staying afloat this year because they are far and away the best 3rd down offense in the league with a 52% conversion rate. league average is roughly 37%, with the lions/ravens/bengals all being at roughly 46%. they have been putrid on early downs though. when you have mahomes and reid you can live that way against the majority of the nfl sure but that's hardly ideal against real playoff defenses (including the broncos and chargers who they struggled to put 16 and 17 points on earlier in the season).
i'd still trust them against the majority of the afc. steelers broncos and chargers all have good defenses but you can't entirely trust those offenses to take advantage, the ravens defense and special teams are straight ass, and the texans might straight up just be a not-good team. i'd be utterly shocked if they were to get past buffalo, who is a superior team in just about every facet this season.

@Fripp: It's just bizarre how KC feels like they're coasting but still manage that record, meanwhile Detroit just goes all-out and it shows. they haven't scored more than 30 in any game all season, which feels unlike them. 2023 they had 3 games above 30 points, 5 games in 2022. Zero so far in 2024. I haven't seen that standout offensive performance this year from Mahomes, he's clearly having a down year. I get what you mean but it's weird seeing middle of the pack teams looking better than KC in defeats than KC does in wins.
