Here for instance

''Devious movements in your eyes

Moved me from relief

Breath comes out white clouds with your lies

And filters through me''

And here:

''A liquid seeps from your chest

And drains me away''

I think he has this whiny and nasal quality that I just can't deal with.

Do you think he sounds very different from Åkerfeldt?

They do sound very similar yeah!

I actually didn't know that he sang on this album too, but I always felt these sections were off somehow. Then I found out and could sleep again at night.

They just are off for me. Whiny/nasal is all I can come up with for a description. Can't put my finger on it.

Mike has an awesome singing voice, not the greatest range in the world but he knows how to use it well.
Wilson tends to have a thin, breathy/nasal voice that has never clicked with me. His vocals on Fear of a Blank Planet (also my fav PT album) sounded awesome.

Mikael’s seamless blend of harsh/clean vocals is what makes him so unique, 10/10 on both.

The outro to Dirge always gets me, just devastatingly beautiful.

Helps that it follows one of my fave verses lyrically too:

LIIIIKE THE WIIIINNNGGGSSS OOOFF A DOOOOOOOOOVVVVEEE

FOLLLDDDIIINNGG AROOOOOOOOUUUUUUNNNDDDDD

I FAAAAADE INTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

THIS TEEENNDERRRR CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEE

Underrated track for sure, as far as that's even possible for BWP-tracks. But still.

Leper Affinity is one of this band's best openers, if not the absolute peak.

The title track on this is one of their best as well. I think I might still prefer MAYH a little more but this is nearly just as good.

People say Dirge is repetitive but when you look at the lyrics it makes sense.

The main riff repeating is basically a reflection of the songs protagonist being stuck in an endless loop of living. Then, when he/she is finally released, the blissful outro kicks in mirroring the protagonist's relief at being able to pass on.

Great storytelling on that track and across the whole album tbh.

Very true indeed! That outro is godly. And I love the drawn out screams during the heavy section. Great track.

Repetition can be pretty boring and if it is boring no artistic reasoning will change that. Dirge isn't boring though, it's actually one of my favourites in here m/

Yes it definitely can be boring.

Confession time: I think Harvest suffers from it severely here. For me, it should have been cut in half at least. Hence the 4.5.

Harvest is beautiful but is a little overlong, agreed.
