i think what i'm looking for is actually very much not that (couple of misleading examples there for sure) -- looking for specifically western stuff that pulls from specifically western pop tropes without feeling deferential to that fix. Poppy pretty much had it for a couple of tracks on EAT (though pandered hard to the anime crowd on I Disagree, which we do not talk about)

I have never heard a single pop/metal blend that didn’t either lean too hard into an edgy hot topic visual aesthetic/nu metal jerbang trippants revival, or have the absolutely most plastic-y processed production. Closest thing I can think of that toes the line is deftones but even they’ve gone downhill the past couple records
