My mom was not supportive lmao. I brought home a Dark Funeral record when I was 15 and she took that shit so fast I didn't even get a chance to take it out of the plastic.

I think my first metal-adjacent record was PT's Deadwing, and I was around 13 or so at the time
Then I moved onto Operation Mindcrime, TSoP, and Watershed shortly after

My parents are strict Christians heh. I've played some dm in the car with them and my dad just hates literally everything that isn't orchestra or piano music, he's a stereotypical high-age boomer. My mom actually thinks some of it is alright. Of course I don't really tell them how anti-christian a lot of shit I listen to is cuz I dont want them to burst into flames or whatever

My dad loves metal but he's 61 years old so he's still very heavy into hair metal and more "classic" heavy metal bands lmao. He does dig some melodeath on occasion but he can't get down with this stuff.

My dad got me into metal when he showed the Mudvayne Dig video. Blew my fuckin mind at age like 10
He was also spinning System, Slipknot and Korn a lot which I naturally gravitated towards. Honestly I think Chop Suey was the first metal song I ever fell in love with but I mean whos isn't lol

I started listening to melodic death metal when I was 14. Children of Bodom, Kalmah, Linkin Park, Korn, System of a Down. So I started with pretty extreme music. Considering that at that point I had never heard of Black Sabbath or Judas Priest.

Lmao all these parental music influence stories to me are fucking wild cause like, my parents who could by and large hardly give a shit about music just kind of rolled with whatever I was jamming in my room. My mum likes some of the huge radio singles of the 80s and 70s that every woman from 45-50 has probably jammed and my dad just kind of passively jams w/e country radio is on, idk if he even actually cares about it more often than not. He used to dig Judas Priest and Ozzy a lot as a teen but my grandparents were hyper-conservative Christians then so gl to him bringing home a CD without it getting snapped in half lmao

"Dude I got started super late lol, literally was like 26 before I even got into neurosis and stuff. Started getting into dm around 27"
I started very early, around 10, i was pretty much a Slipknot fanboy and didn't have any musical preference before that, then tried things like Megadeth and dm bands in high school and the rest is history

I was jamming Deathspell ahrd at 3
|

System of a Down was my first favorite band then I got a headbangers ball compilation CD with cradle and arch enemy and it was off to the races.

I feel like Dolan's ability to be menacing enough for the music and at the same time, be completely intelligible as far as the actual lyrics are concerned doesn't get mentioned nearly enough and deserves some attention
