This is the album that I still love more with every listen, can’t say the same for SWB and the older ones have given all they can. This is a forever album.

It’s their best, it sits in the middle of their discog like a perfect exercise in refinement of all their best ideas.

New one is calling out for a singalong classic like ‘Humiliation’ or ‘Demons’

Weird that this is 6 years old now, part of me still thinks of it as their newest but this is now distinctly “classic era” National. This, Boxer, and HV really are some of the absolute greatest ever (HV listen the other night reaffirms it as my GOAT, Boxer last night is top 5, this maybe top 10? Top 15 at worst).

This will always be my fav National as well. Means so much to me. HV is a top twenty of the decade as well.

Absolute masterpiece, but i can be biased, since it was the record I got into The National.

This is like their fourth or fifth best for me, I appreciate how SWB shook things up.

Salt, Demons, Cap, Last Time, Slipped, Humiliation, Rabbits...that’s seven rip snorters straight off the bat.

SWB can’t compete with that!

Let alone IAETF

Yeah, even though I’ve got SWB 5d this is still notably better. Everything here is near perfect. SWB has “Guilty Party” and Dark Side of the Gym” but damn near everything on this is better than nearly everything else on SWB.

Nah, Alligator has a fair few clunkers and they hadn’t become properly National-y as we know it. Too transitional.

Alli is good though.

High Violet is when they started becoming the best band ever.

This has like 5 or 6 National classics for sure, but SWB takes things up a notch while experimenting more. This is so dreary and muted to listen front to back for me.

Alligator is a classic but I put the three following albums above it.

Alligator, Boxer, HV is definitely the holy trifecta. They’ll never top any of those I don’t think.
