So damn close to a 5. But I think of "To Pimp A Butterfly" and it is a 5 and just ever so slightly tops this.

on first listen i thought TPAB was better than this. i had it at a 5 and this at a 4.5. but TPAB is almost trying to be too deep and weird for it's own good. this album feels much more natural while TPAB feels forced at times. have them both at a 4.5 now but TPAB mught drop to a 4 soon, i think there is a good amount of filler on that album such as Complexion, U and How Much a Dollar cost

i don't necessarily think TPAB is trying too hard to be deep or weird, but i do feel like a lot of people are making it out to be much more profound than it actually is. it's the execution, in my opinion, that makes it a great album

it's definitely a darker record than this one, there are some straight up fun bangers on this album

it definitely is and there definitely are. one of the things that really appeals to me about this record is i can just throw it on whenever and have fun. it's pretty easy to listen to

very easy to listen to. TPAB is a little more demanding listening experience and more uncomfortable at times

When I first listened to this record, I enjoyed it but I didn't love it.
It wasn't until I sat down and listened to this record with the lyrics (which I didn't actually get around to doing until this past fall) that I really fell in love with this record. TPAB is almost the exact opposite. I fucking loved it initially, but then I sat down and listened to it with the lyrics and it grew off me a bit. I absolutely love the topics that Kendrick tackles on the new album, but TPAB doesn't have nearly as much lyrical or conceptual depth as this record does. What I love so much about this record is that you can interpret the album in so many different ways, and the lyrics outside of the album's context have a completely different meaning than they do within the context of the concept.
