Ska, or at least skacore/ska punk/third wave ska is mediocre overall, but there are some hard gems of the genre. This is why it annoys me when people write off entire genres. It only proves to me that they don't want to take the time to give something a chance so they write off any band that plays similar music. Ska is my favorite genre because in a genre that contains such shit and whose overexposure was almost disgusting, there were masterful songwriters that chose to prove that it could be a vehicle for masterpieces. It's my favorite genre, because to me it proves why genre tags are in no way an indication of quality.

If you don't like them, you don't like them. Rx Bandits aren't exactly a great example of ska overall though. The thing is, (and you can think I'm full of shit or not) there are a lot of third wave and post third wave ska bands out there that greatly differ from those dudes. For example, I specifically remember you saying you thought ska would be better without horns. There are a lot of ska punk bands that very rarely use horns.

Cyg knows big time.
The roots of all this, stretching from the dub reggae stuff late 60s? early 70s to the two tone bands of the late 70s early 80s had 'something' and an undeniable groove.
The American stuff is just hollow, childish drivel in comparison.

Love ya, Zak. But when it comes to the higher end bands, I couldn't disagree more if I tried.

I love ya to dude so give us a tune from all this that's going to make me reconsider and start wearing a pork pie hat, braces and play a flugelhorn like a pro.
