The problem with this album is that it gets repetitive in its unnecessarily long playtime. It was a groundbreaking release that opened the gate for many tech death elements we have normalized today; In that way this is a very important album, but in itself I don't think it's a classic at all. It lacks variety and it's too long for its own sake.

Paraphrasing a metal-archives review: "As far as criticism for this brilliant album, it is still an hour long and 12 full tracks that often venture past the 5min mark. That's a lot of material for any music, more so for any death metal, and even more so yet for this sort of a ridiculously intense experience. The tracks do well enough all things considered to keep the listener in suspense over what comes next, and there are loads of fresh riffs and musical ideas, but after a while the all-engulfing chaos that is this twisted music turns to somewhat of a status quo, at which point it's easy for the audience to lose a bit of their focus." I completely agree and those are exactly my thoughts.

I do too, when i'm around the track 5 i'm wondering how long for the album to end, not because it's bad, but it certanly drains your stamina in the long run
