aside from some obvious examples (seriously, why are RYM's Buckcherry averages so high?) it can be stated that if even RYM is taking an album better than this site, there may be some hyperbole involved in the rating process.

the only reason i care is it kind of fucks with my mind a little, because it tells me "hey, you there, you can write what you want, but we'll still hate it incessantly" if an album I take influence from gets trashed

I'm talking about if I released my own original music. Take for instance, BFMV's Gravity. They've been around for like 20 years. If they're getting a 1.9 for trying that style, there's no way I won't get less bc the shit I'm working on is only a year or so in the making. Their experience gives them the leg up.

If they were willing to pay, yeah I'd take it because I'm a selfish piece of shit. But that's not the main motivation for writing. I know I won't please everyone, but there's the possibility that the influences I have will seep through too strongly, leading to similar averages to the albums that I like that get massive amounts of shite.

As for how I'm a pariah, every thread I'm in turns to shit for a reason.
