The end of the 2nd track is pure drone iirc. Its been a while. Stars of the Lid are a popular example

where would you place the difference between an ambient and drone album then? o:

drone is considered to be much more minimal and built around very few sustained tones / harmonics etc. ambient music often utilizes drone elements but doesn't always have to.

Ok folks I think I'm kinda fucked in the head. Listened to this for the first time last night and found it really underwhelming considering what I'd been lead to believe. Was this a first timer for everyone else or does it take time to grow on you?

that certainly wasn't the case for me but if you've heard other post rock albums before, that might color your interpretation. this was my first experience with it (at 16 years old, no less) so it blew my mind.

Yeah that's something I hadn't considered. I am very familiar with the genre which might sound ridiculous since I hadn't heard this before but it's just one of those glaring omissions in my listening history. It just really surprised me given how much I adore Slow Riot and and pretty much everything else Godspeed have done.

I listened to Lift Your first, and in comparison THIS is kind of underwhelming on first impression. Much more minimalist. But it does grow on you

Yes. I'd say my first impressions of this album were the same as Zettel's 1.5 review.

I'd say if you aren't enjoying it right now, just set it aside and come back later. Maybe something will catch your ear on another listen Dead Flag Blues was really the first part to catch mine.

It works better as a work of art than it does to actually sit down and jam
