People always quote that without noting that right after that he says "feel the horror with no delay". Seems sort of apologetic, or at least that he's aware of how much of a monster he was in the past when he committed those acts.

that could very well be true, but without contextual clues it still makes me uncomfy

“hide ur daughteeeeeeers” is a lil creepy"
Not really. It sounds like a sort of warning to fathers, or maybe a reflection on the mindset of fathers because they know what they were like when they were young. Its not like hes saying "hide your daughters cause im gonna come fuck them." Its more like "hide your daughters because i know what pieces of shit like me did to get their way when they were younger."

well Jesus Christ thats a pedophile

I think it depends on how you consider it. But I can’t shake the image of Jesse “getting his way”
Also he’s not the most credible source in protecting daughters lol

I have such a hard time listening to this band's music these days. Everytime I hear a line where he's all like "I'm such a manic depressive, I'm so alone, I'm such a horrible person" yadda yadda, instead of going "oh shit that's me" i think "woww, must be so hard to be a pedo. being a creep is such a bad rap".

I didn't revisit this album after the shit hit the fan until just last week. I still enjoy it, but man...
Fuck Jesse Lacey.

"Fuck Jesse Lacey." I agree with the sentiment, but I think It might be appropriate to utilize a different word, considering the circumstances.
I'm still mad about the whole thing, and feeling dirty too. I bought the limited edition vinyl of this album the day BEFORE the shit hit the fan.

The problem is, Nateman, you focus the music to be about him, instead of being about you. I have no connection to J. Lacey aside from the fact that he's a talented songwriter, and I have never once cared about the lyrics in terms of his own life – only mine. I don't listen to Brand New to feel bad for Jesse, I do it because the lyrics hit hard with me. Jesse's just the vessel that passed these lyrics to me. You were doing it fine earlier, just because he got exposed as a creep shouldn't make you change that approach.

I don't begrudge anyone not being able to separate art from the artist, especially when its an artist that deeply influenced you at anypoint in your life.
It's all subjective and personal and that's entirely fine. I'll still listen to Brand New from time to time but the fervent fandom is gone and I'm certainly not going to support Jesse Lacey in any way.

if you google "brand new" its most of the first page
It's all subjective and personal and that's entirely fine.
agreed hard. i dont think "separating the art and the artist" and "not separating art/artist" should be policies; i think they're statements of subjective experience. that is, when you're listening to something by a problematic artist, you either feel personally that you can separate the art and the artist, or you feel that you cant. i dont think you should tell anybody else how to feel on that matter; like SoS says, "it's all subjective and personal and that's entirely fine." thats not to say that we shouldnt have policies about what people do as a result of how they feel: is it okay to keep talking about, promoting or putting money towards art you like by problematic people, even if you're not ok with the thing that makes them problematic? (imo, its okay with brand new cuz continuing to praise jesse's art while denouncing his actions doesnt somehow promote sexual misconduct...unless it does because hes not being penalised enuf for his actions; anyway it might not be ok when contributing to a person's notoriety also spreads their past and present problematic views--as opposed to actions--and perhaps also gives them a platform to continue spreading those views e.g. varg and his white supremacy)
just felt like summing up my feelings on this whole mess
