The thing about Death is they have never released a bad album. How many bands can say the same?

If you were to ask fans to name the #1 Death album you would get mixed answers. Some will say Human, some will say Symbolic, or The Sound of Perseverance, others the classic Scream Bloody Gore. Everyone has their favorite.

There is no question that this one of the strongest in the catalog.

The band continued to become more progressive with this release. Fantastic technical guitar work, great melodies, and superb lyrics.

Post-Human these are Chuck Schuldiner's best vocals. More raspy and high pitched Death Metal vocals with some growls/screams thrown in there. Not as high pitched as the album that would follow though.

Some of the best Death riffs are on this album and Hoglan behind the drum kit is a force to be reckoned with. Other than Chuck and Gene, the other 2 band members really did nothing on this album. That's not to take away from their talents, but there was nothing memorable from them.

One of the crowning metal albums of the 1990s. Is it Death's best work? I don't think that question can be answered.

Standout Tracks:

Zero Tolerance

Without Judgement

1,000 Eyes

Crystal Mountain

Misanthrope

I remember when I first listened to this, I wasn't really into death metal at the time. It took a while to grow on me, but it paid off, amazing album indeed.
