but then we'd have to constantly be subtracting 32 and dividing by 1.8 just to figure out the temperature. that's a lot of unnecessary mental math.

yeah it's too late for us americans to pick up the metric system. government would never pay for all the sign changes and all that.

Yeah, plus it'd be rough to lug 100 tons of street sign steel 15 miles up the road to the landfill

"yeah it's too late for us americans to pick up the metric system. government would never pay for all the sign changes and all that."

I mean, you could try a gradual convertion:

1. Teaching it at schools for future adult americans

2. Making all the new signs, speedometers, weather reports, etc, to show in both systems, and gradually changing them over time to be just on metric

It would take a lot of time, but it would be really useful

Not a bad idea. But there's also the fact that we don't like change

it's been postulated that the reason people in the us don't do as well in maths as they could is because of the imperial system o:

Is the school curriculum in the US in general basic af? My sister goes to an 'elite' high school there and i had a look at her homework it's essentially what we do in Australia 2 school years earlier. I had a reasonably intelligent friend that moved there during high school and found it ridiculously easy to get the top grades too. I know these are just anecdotal but makes me woner.

America has a very standardized system of education across the country. It is very balanced, and because of this can make it very difficult for some and easy for others. If your friend is reasonably intelligent, I would expect him to make better grades.

How about The Mantle though? What an album.
