I'll be taking my 30% and spending it on a copy of Animal Collective's debut album

'Fame is fleeting

Good music is forever'

Well, yeah, this was widely considered the best album of 2009 and will always be remembered where 'Spirit' will be remembered by 500 RYM users ;D

I wish I did like 'Spirit' more, it ticks the boxes - obscure, experimental, Avey-centric...perfect for a Doof 5. Just missing 'actually what I want to listen to'.

I will always find it hard to believe anyone doesn't think they went on to record at least 30 songs better than any song on that album but...you are not alone in your love of that the 'Spirit' so fair enough.

Doof is on-point, they became much better songwriters after that cute but flawed debut.

"and will always be remembered"

I would think someone whose listened to so much would know that "popular for a short while" != "remembered for all time" but whatever you say.

I can't really say much about not liking Spirit as much as this though, I get all that. But please don't say it's not their debut. Because it is.

yeah idk, the production on spirit is honestly terrible and it was obviously not an aesthetic choice. it's a fine album for what it is, and a solid debut, but this is orders of magnitude better. can't say objectively, because music is subjective, but i think the vast majority of fans and non-fans would agree this is where it's at.

Rage against the machine had more of a legacy than this (:

I'm tired of talking about spirit here, I'm moving on to Danse Manatee
