Yeah, the band's direction would've been much different if Syd had stayed. He would've been the main lyricist instead of Waters, which would've would've made a helluva difference.

that's really nice to hear, I knew about the 2010 tour (the footage of them playing together on the last night it is spectacular) but I assumed they just put aside their grudges and played together for the charity's benefit

They did demonstrate tenacity from 1967 onwards. They were dedicated and hard-working. And in 1973, arguably, lightning struck.

I guess part of the reason why it took time had to do with the ghost of Syd lingering with them after he was fired. Plus, they were pretty much an experimental psych rock band for their earlier years. Suddenly, with Darkside, it became a whole new ball-game.

Danny - they obvi just got better as musicians and composers with experience plus the money to be able to do things and gain equipment plus the technological advances that were happening during that period

you make a point with how Waters was behind the later concepts, but Dark Side and Wish are almost

completely based on their departure with Syd. Sure maybe gems like Echoes coulda still been written

but I seriously doubt they would have been able to conjure up anything after Obscured without having

suffered through that loss, cause even Animals, The Wall and TFC wouldn't exist without the band first

plunging into more cynical topics
