tbqh i'm 90% sure I never want to revisit this but it's one of the best of its style.

I don't even know if you're right or wrong
I feel like this is probably top tier haunting atmosphere, dissonant leads, chunky riffs and menacing (if a bit one-note) vocals but it's bordering so close to sensory overload that it's amazing I was able to finish in one sitting without thinking i need to take a break
and on the other hand i never really want to revisit it because of said sensory overload but it's good to know what the original formula of this haunting dissonant death metal is all about
the 4 is for what i feel like this probably is in reality relative to my desire to revisit
plus you 4.5'd deicide lol

this just kinda feels musically "smarter" than a lot of non-melo dm I've heard in a way? like it feels like it's making a statement rather than just being heavy for the hell of it.

Yes there is no comparison between immolation and deicide. Immolation's best is infinitely better than deicide's best
But
Early deicide is still good. If you don't dig dm on the whole, you're not going to dig deicide. I mean it speaks to the level you dig dm when you hear one of the absolute best dm albums ever made, 4 it and then say you're probably never going to listen to it again

Even as a big DM fan, I've never been able to get into Deicide. They just strike me as so one-dimensional and boring, even compared to other straightforward DM bands

Koris my point is not who digs deicide, my point is who doesn't. What I'm saying is that some dm fans do like them, some don't, but if you don't like death metal in general, it is basically a foregone conclusion that you're not going to like deicide. There is nothing groundbreaking about that distinction

I've really tried to get into Deicide over the years, but there's just something that's never really clicked for me for whatever reason

They're fairly one-dimensional compared to the best, but that one dimension is pretty enjoyable

Haven't checked Deicide yet. They never really jumped out to me as something that seemed essential and I'm positive I've heard bands I love more than I'll love them already but I'm down to hear some good songs, so I should at least check out the early stuff. What's the opinion on Vader?

Deicide is far from essential but they're definitely not bad.
Talking about bands I've never been able to get into, I've never enjoyed vader much. Everything koris has said about deicide, I could say about vader.
