"We didn't miss much. Kirk's on the automatic since the black album."

Disagree hard. His solos on Load/Reload are probably the most unique/non-Kirk-sounding stuff he ever did, even if most of it isn't all that technical/shreddy. He pulls off the bluesy stuff especially well imo.

He was a pretty great live guitarist in the 80s/90s imo... and was fine in the 00s to. Wasn't really until the Hardwired cycle when he started rapidly regressing.

DM solos were lacking as well. I wonder what happened to his playing

Rumor has it he developed tendinitis over the years but imo he just started spending all his time surfing instead of practicing guitar... evidenced by the immaculate tan he's maintained the past 15 years

It's really not that hard. He stopped practicing. It's the same reason as to why Lars never became a better drummer after 30 years of constant playing. And it makes sense; if you make so much money, why bother?

I really enjoyed it. But it was like Kirk was muted until the solo

Metallica is a main example of a band that produced several classics that aren't 5s. They're highs are just amazing

I'll give you a pass. I only listened to load/reload a couple of times maybe 10 years ago. Then, I throw them back to my dusty shelve to rot for eternity. And I've got zero interest to revisit. These albums although not so bad, are so boring. Honestly, St anger was worse but at least it got me surprised with its shitty quality. Load/reload didn't even care to give me that at least. They're just a big fucking meh. If i could bring myself to listen again, maybe i could perceive their sound in a different way because obviously I'm not the same person i was 10 years ago.

You can make a great album if you pick the best tracks from Load/Reload and throw the rest
