As if. I think it's a par for the course traditional metal album with far less intensity and lyrical boldness than the four before it. I think Seasons in the Abyss and even Countdown to Extinction were superior to the Black Album.

The black album is good. Better than everything that came after by a mile.

I'd agree the Black Album is better than anything after it, especially the Loads and St. Anguish (as the album is to listen to). I thought Death Magnetic was okay, but not a full return to form.

Death Magnetic and Black Album are always changing for my favorite of theirs released after this, both are pretty straightforward and enjoyable with a few moments of greatness.

Yeah but I think the Black Album is no where close to Countdown or Seasons and that Megadeth's Endgame is a far greater return to roots.

By the way I listen to more traditional metal than thrash but Metallica's traditional metal songs tend to be a fraction of what intensity most of 70s Judas Priest, Rainbow, and Scorpions on top of 80s Maiden had.

I don't know about that second post, but of course Endgame and Seasons are better than anything Metallica did after this.
I don't know if I prefer Countdown over Black Album or DM, the vocals and lyrics are some of the worst of the genre despite most of the music itself being great.

I love a lot of Countdown's lyrics to be honest. Mustaine compromised much less on the intelligence than Hetfield has for decades now. I don't expect all metal bands to have lyrics on par with early Queensryche, but I think the switch to the Black Album from Justice was lyrically draining to Metallica except for the sales.

black album fucks countdown

oh yeah sweating bullets is lyrical genius

The only thing the Black Album has over Countdown is popularity, and honestly my gratitude for the Black Album is limited to the fact that it gave their older (and superior) albums more attention. And one lyrical WTF does not make an inferior album, especially when it has the balls to bash Kim Jong il and Bush Sr in the same release.

20 years later and Mustaine's instead practically endorsing them lol
I prefer most of the music on Countdown but the singing and lyrics on black album, so they're probably tied for me

Technically he did bash Bush Jr. and Obama in "Endgame" though. It's fine if you like the singing more on the Black Album though, as Mustaine is certainly not one of my favorite singers despite him being behind so much of Peace Sells and Rust in Peace. I'm also certainly not a Megadeth fanboy, as I have Risk and Super Collider as 2s.

I don't like Megadeth after RiP that much

Honestly, the highest Megadeth album I have after RiP is a 4, that being Endgame. I still think Risk and Super Collider suck less than St. Anger and Lulu though.

All four are among the worst mainstream metal albums released by classic bands
Megadeth has plenty of worthwhile material after RIP, even if there's also about as much shit too

I despise Risk and Super Collider, but St. Anger and Lulu are two of the few 1s I have given a classic band, along with albums like Octagon, Dedicated to Chaos, and Illud Divinum Insanus.
