I get why people wouldn't dig it, but this shit grooves hard and there are some killer basslines and riffs throughout.

definitely it’s a very undeserved rep. if this was released by a rock band nobody would bat an eye. well done for what it is.

I think 'The World Needs a Hero' might be the first time in this discog run where you hit the buffers a bit Hawks...but I might be proven wrong and they're now your favourite band of all time ;D

Strangely, between this, Cryptic Writings and Youthanasia, I find this probably sounds the most "natural" - like they actually pull off the contemporary butt rock pretty well here. I found it a little jarring on their previous albums, there's still some of the thrash in those albums and the songs come off as awkward at times. Dave's vox especially sound great on this.

that's fair, i think the blend on cryptic writings is really nicely done to me. really huge hooks and more rock oriented structure but still has that edge. but i do think you're right, this is dave's technical peak as a singer. he sounds remarkably traditional.

Prince of Darkness sounds a little too much like alt Metallica - Dave’s vocal inflections sound like he’s trying to impersonate James Hetfield

Favs off this are prone Insomnia, Breadline and The Doctor Is Calling
