if there was a posterchild for everything wrong with mainstream metalcore now, it would be spiritbox

I really still do love Negative Spaces, but this album is so aimless in comparison. There are a few standouts, but as a whole it's just... eh. You are right about her vocals, but without the interesting elements of Negative Spaces it's moot.

Album is ok, it's really just a collection of Negative Spaces b-sides.
I hope she'll take some time and get rid of the fish for the next album tho, can't stand this type of production anymore.

I already had low expectations for the album's sound (considering Fish was once again producing this) so I can't say I'm that disappointed about it. I don't think it's fair to expect her to switch genres with every single release and doubling down on alternative metal and metalcore isn't a bad idea, but Fish's production is too stale, uninspired and plastic this time around. Whatever spark there was with Negative Spaces, it ain't here.
Great review and while I do agree with most of your points, I disagree about her vocals, which are -surprisingly- turning me off here (and I loved her vocals on her previous albums). I just think that her clean vocals here sound like she's going through the motions ('Unravel', 'Guardian', 'Ribs') and the novelty of her screaming vocals has somewhat worn off, but she still delivers some great performances, especially on 'Dying To Forget' and the title track. Those two tracks, along with the opener, are my favorite ones here; the rest aren't outright awful, but they are very forgettable fluff for me.

Genuinely one of my favorite EPs ever, after listening to most of her stuff and then finally discovering that one, I never would’ve expected her to come out something so fucking unhinged

I would die happy if she committed to the EAT sound for even just one album.

Im only two fucking tracks in and i feel like ive already heard this shit before. Poppy can sing, yes some of the production choices are deliberate and for her "character" but you dont need it to be this clinical.
Bruised sky is an architects b side from the sky and the earth, good to know fish gave them a poppy b side and used one of theirs for this.
What made Negative spaces work is Poppys ability to shift through the various genres, from hyper pop to punk and grunge and hardcore.
Dying to forgets so boring, Poppys harsh vocals arent solid enough to carry a song primarily imo
