"this guys are geniouses, they manage to put barely 20 minutes of music - extended with some ambient shit
and everybody thinks its the album of the year
work of art"
Taking this snobbish of an approach to this wide of a miss while spelling geniuses wrong is wild.

Haha. Upset that this isn’t untrue.

Everyone prayed to Metal Gods for Opeth to growl again. And they answered. However, what we should've prayed instead is for Opeth to do metal again. Please, everyone do your part so we get Blackwater Park II in 15 years.

I'd prefer Orchid or Morningrise 2 with a little more cohesiveness lol.

I've always wanted Opeth to do a progressive metal album with their old sound but all clean vocals. I'm sure it would be amazing.
I've yet to hear any of this album except the single. I haven't been interested in Opeth in years honestly.

motiv, I highly doubt that they could pull off an entire record with that sound and no growls. it'd probably sound awkward and lacking

Very mixed reception for this album. Wide range of vastly different ratings.. I can conclude that I do like this but it was definitely a grower.

Same for me, but it grew steadily for a long time, love it now!

Well on first listen there were moments I liked for sure but album feels incredibly disjointed and all over the place in terms of ideas. Much like Heritage in that regard though this album is better.

Yes. Yes. No. No. Heritage has a way more cohesive overall vibe and flow to me.
Revisiting this any further will inevitably lead to further resentment. I did consider it to be growing marginally at one point, but in the end it flatlined unfortunately
|

Heritage is even more of a disjointed mess than this album with a lot of ideas just hastily thrown together to try and create something new and fresh (for Opeth at the time anyway).
This album at least has moments of clarity and cohesiveness albeit marred with a lot of stop/start nonsense.
Each to their own though.

I don’t hear this being disjointed whatsoever lol I don’t know. It’s funny how much prog inclinations can divide opinions as far as “too out there and abrupt” vs not
|
| |
Yeah this isn't disjointed. It flows just fine. I think it's just one of the critiques that someone made and it caught like wildfire here

This doesn't feel more disjointed to me than any of their stuff, they've always been twisty-turny starty-stoppy anyway, since their early days, and from at least GR this has been even more pronounced, style wise.
Heritage probably was their most disjointed one, but in the best way possible.
|
| |
I mean, most disjointed would probably be one of the first two albums but I love those anyway
